Why independent
I chose the technical track over people management when the choice was offered, because that’s where I’m useful. Working directly is the same decision made again — no account layer, no hand-off, the architect you talk to is the one doing the work.
- Took a shared component library from an internal experiment to the default starting point for every new brand rollout.
- Cut brand onboarding from months to weeks by making configuration, not forking, the way to differentiate.
- Ran the hiring and onboarding for the team — four developers, all still on the platform.
- Replaced a single big-bang release train with independent per-brand deploys, ending a freeze that had held for months.
- Split architecture decisions from delivery pressure by writing them down — short ADRs the client still uses.
- Handled the escalation path with stakeholders directly, so the teams could stay on the work.
2023–24MACH Expert Lead — composable storefront POCArchitected and mostly built it solo: Contentful, commercetools, Next.js, AKS — deployable in 15 minutes via Terraform.
- Inherited a handover mid-collapse — mapped the real system, cut the unknowns, and had delivery predictable within a quarter.
- Designed the BFF layer that keeps 30+ market frontends off the service internals.
- My discovery documents became the template the client now asks other vendors to match.
