When a platform feels slow to change, the instinct is to start again. It is emotionally satisfying and almost always wrong: you throw away years of encoded edge cases and keep every organisational habit that produced the mess.
Diagnose the cost, not the code
I rank problems by what they cost per month — in incidents, in blocked releases, in the tax every feature pays. That ranking usually shows two or three structural issues doing most of the damage, and they are rarely the ones the team complains about loudest.
What a review buys you
A week or two of work and a written assessment turns a rebuild argument into a sequenced remediation plan. Sometimes the answer really is a rebuild — but then you can defend the number.
Nobody regrets the two weeks they spent finding out what was actually wrong.
