Everything that can be automatic should be
On a bridge call at 2 a.m. nobody remembers the manual step. The fix at enterprise scale is the same one a five-page site needs: deploys, backups and certificate renewals that happen without a human deciding to do them.
Know before your customer does
Uptime monitoring costs almost nothing and changes the relationship entirely. Finding out from a customer email is a different kind of Monday.
Boring is a feature
The sites I never hear about are built out of unremarkable, well-understood parts. Novelty belongs in the design, not the infrastructure.
Fast, safe and boring — in that order.
